Smart Brno – South

About the Smart Brno – South Project

The project focuses on improving transport conditions and quality of life in Brno through the implementation of modern technologies using the 5G network in the areas of Hněvkovského, Svatopetrská, and Dornych.

As part of the project, new C-ITS stations will be installed and connected to the existing traffic light controllers. These stations will use data from newly deployed video detectors, providing a detailed overview of the current traffic situation. The collected data will be further processed using advanced video analysis, enabling more accurate and efficient traffic management. The solution will also include the development of a mobile application offering users an overview of current and anticipated traffic light settings.

Another important element of the project is traffic optimization through adaptive control. This system will incorporate short-term traffic predictions and will be able to flexibly adapt to current traffic demand. The aim is to ensure smoother and more efficient traffic flow.

The project represents a key step in the modernization of Brno’s transport infrastructure. If the proposed technological solutions prove successful, their deployment in other urban areas will be considered.

Project Objectives

The main objective of the project is to expand data infrastructure in the areas of Hněvkovského, Svatopetrská, and Dornych streets. A key component of the proposed solution is testing data transmission possibilities over the 5G network, which should provide faster and more reliable communication between transport system components.

Project Benefits

The implementation of the project will increase efficiency in managing urban transport and overall mobility of residents. Through 5G technology, instant two-way exchange of information between vehicles, transport infrastructure, and other road users will be ensured. This type of communication should improve traffic flow and reduce the risk of human error, thereby enhancing road safety.

The C-ITS system has long-term potential to significantly improve the quality of the urban environment—contributing to the reduction of emissions, noise, and traffic accidents. These changes will enhance the comfort and safety of residents. Thanks to modern transport solutions and improved accessibility, the city can become more attractive for residents, businesses, and investors.
